BSNL to Launch “BSNL BUZZ” – Livescreen Mobile Cell Broadcast Services (CBS)


India’s National Telcom Backbone Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will launch Cell Broadcast based services “BSNL BUZZ” for its Mobile Customers. BSNL has signed agreement with M/s Celltick, who is providing mobile marketing services to all major telecom giants in the world with its “LiveScreen” Services.

M/s Celltick will deploy end to end management of providing content, promotions, contest etc.in association with BSNL. They will provide services to BSNL Mobile Customers which are customized according to the taste of individual mobile customers.
The services will be available to the new BSNL SIM holders. However for existing BSNL SIM holders, an application will be provided by M/s Celltick which can be sent through OTA platform and downloaded by the customer. As the Apps will reside in customer handset, dependent upon handset operating system, it is presumed that most of smartphone user will be able to use these services.
BSNL has already started earning revenue by marketing and promoting its Cell Broadcast Service in various telecom circles including Kerala, Chennai etc. Presently telecom industry is using Cell Broadcast channel for Advertisement, Marketing and Promotion of various companies or Value Added Services. Cell Broadcast is capable of broadcasting one single message to reach all mobile handsets in an area as small as one radio cell and as big as the entire country. Its’ broadcast is real time and fast.
In short, “BSNL BUZZ” will provide customized contents to millions of BSNL users simultaneously and these Contents will be customized as per user preferences. BSNL will be launching “BSNL BUZZ” services by the the end of 2014.

BSNL comes up with location-based services in Patna


The BSNL, India has launched location-based cell broadcast services through which vital information and message can be given to all CellOne (post-paid mobile phone) subscribers in a particular or entire service area.

Cell broadcast services can be utilised to provide vital information to CellOne users about any disaster, disaster management measures or any other important information.

The location-based services include fleet management to enable subscribers to know the whereabouts of their vehicles, friends and information relating to whereabouts of users, traffic alert service, city sightseeing, emergency service, public safety, navigation, information regarding weather etc.

The other newly-launched services includes 126300 Celibrum IVRS, a content value added service on mobile phone and DotSoft billing system in the state provides integrated billing with commercial package which include accounting, billing, commercial, directory enquiry and fault repair service.

Cell Broadcast System

SMS Cell Broadcast is designed for simultaneous delivery of messages to multiple users in a specified area. Whereas the Short Message Service (SMS) is a one-to-one and one-to-a-few service, Cell Broadcast is one-to-many geographically focused service. It enables messages to be communicated to multiple mobile phone customers who are located within a given part of its network coverage area at the time the message is broadcast.

Q: How can I send a Cell Broadcast message?
A: This is not possible. Only an operator/content provider can send messages.

Q: Will Cell Broadcast expose my position to the operator or content provider?
A: No. Since Cell Broadcast does not address individual mobile phones, it does not need to know your position.

Q: Do I have Cell Broadcast on my mobile phone?
